Atlanta is getting close, and I am getting prepared for my presentation at the IAF conference. Have worked my way down the East Coast (Bowling Green, Ohio to Hartford, Connetticut, to Boston, Massachusetts - today with Amtrak from Boston to Washington D.C., what a great train trip! It looks like Connetticut is one of the great places to live).
Steve Dale has compiled a list and a ranking of 100 Social Media Tools: It is awesome and a good start for you to explore what are the real cool but helpful web applications. I understand that this list "has been compiled from a cohort of learning professionals who shared their Top 10 Tools for Learning both for their own personal learning/productivity and for creating learning solutions for others." This explains probably why some of the listed tools are in fact not at all Social Media Tools but standard software. However, the list is full of gems and if you want to dive into the brave new world of Internet, I wouldn't know a better point of departure.
By the way - one of my current favorites is missing in the list: >KeepVid. This is a service which allows you to download YouTube videos, which is great if you want to use them offline in your presentations (or ´just watch them again and again and again). Until recently, only download as Flash was possible (which required a special player), now, KeepVid also facilitates MP4 download.
More discoveries to come.
